Once again, the Literary Arts Magazine is open for business for the 2025–2026 school year with its Open Submissions policy. Every year, the club releases a magazine featuring the talent and work of South students. If you like writing, drawing, taking pictures, and more, then this club is for you! If you don’t want to submit work to the magazine, becoming an editor is also an option.
On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, I sat down with Mr. Florio, the advisor of the Literary Arts Magazine Club, for an interview about the LAM club and its Open Submissions Policy. “Q” represents the questions I asked him, and “A” represents Mr. Florio’s answers.
Q: What is the Open Submissions Policy, and who can submit works to the magazine?
A: We will take any original writing, artwork, photography, and other creative works made by South students in grades 7 through 12.
Q: When does Open Submissions close?
A: We typically take submissions up until March, but we can accept something later if needed.
Q: Why should students take time to submit work to the magazine?
A: It is an opportunity to see your original work published. You get to see your writing and creative work in print. The magazine will also be available at the Valley Stream Public Library.
Q: How can students submit their work to the magazine?
A: If they join the Teams group, there will be a Teams page for submissions. Students can also send their work to me on Teams, as well as submit physical copies.
Q: What are the benefits of submitting work to the magazine?
A: You will have your work published, and you can tell your friends that you have been published. This is also an award-winning publication.
Q: What is the theme for this year’s magazine?
A: The theme for this year’s magazine is Treasured Moments. Students can create something based on what they think the term “Treasured Moments” means to them. Of course, they do not have to follow the theme, but it is there to inspire.
