AP World is a lot to remember, so here are some ways I make it easier for myself—and maybe they can help you too!
1. Don’t just memorize—try to understand what’s happening and why. It’s not just about dates; it’s about how events connect. I usually think about continuity, which is a big focus in AP World.
2. Make charts with timelines. They help you see what’s going on at the same time in different parts of the world, and that can help you make connections—which is again a big part of AP World.
3. Practice DBQs and essays for the AP exam. The writing section is a major part of both the class and the test. I use College Board’s practice tests, look at examples online, and practice using evidence from documents.
4. Use flashcards or Quizlet. Quizlet is AMAZING for studying because it already has most of the questions and vocabulary you need. It’s such a good way to study, especially for key ideas and terms.
5. Study a little at a time. Don’t wait until the test to cram everything—trust me, it doesn’t work out. Doing shorter study sessions one day at a time helps you remember much more.
6. Ask questions in class. If something doesn’t make sense, ask your teacher! I wasn’t in Social Studies Accelerated, and I’ve found that asking questions makes the class a lot easier to understand. Chances are, other people are confused too.
AP World can be tough, but if you stay organized and motivated, you’ll be just fine!
